Nearly €10 Million Pledged by International Partners in Support of the Ukraine Green Recovery Platform

The Ukraine Green Recovery Platform is proud to announce that nearly €10 million in financial support has already been pledged by international partners to accelerate green recovery efforts in Ukraine. This includes contributions from Italy, France, Finland, Japan, the Czech Republic, and notably Germany, which allocated €5 million in 2023.

This announcement was highlighted during the First Stakeholder Forum of the Ukraine Green Recovery Platform, which brought together government officials, environmental experts, civil society leaders, and international donors to align efforts on Ukraine’s sustainable rebuilding.

🌍 The Platform, originally launched in Berlin in June 2024, serves as a strategic space to generate and coordinate green solutions for Ukraine’s recovery. It will continue shaping its initiatives during the upcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2025) in Rome this July.

During the forum, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Svitlana Hrynchuk, emphasized:

"War has already caused over €85 billion in environmental damage. A comprehensive strategy that integrates ecological consequences into all areas of recovery is essential. That’s why we are building a clear project matrix that minimizes environmental impact.”

Over 800 participants attended the forum, including international partners and co-founders of the Platform such as Germany, which also co-chairs the working group on Environmental Security under the President’s Peace Formula. As Eva Kracht of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment noted, aligning Ukraine’s recovery with global climate priorities is crucial.

🤝 Italy, the host of URC2025, is placing strong emphasis on green innovation and cooperation with Ukraine. According to Ambassador Carlo Formosa, Italy will continue contributing expertise in green architecture and the circular economy, and will support Ukraine in transforming challenges into long-term sustainable opportunities.

🌿 Finland, also a co-chair of the Environmental Security working group, continues to provide steady support through joint projects in environmental monitoring and remains committed to Ukraine’s recovery agenda at the OSCE level.

🇧🇪 Belgium expressed its readiness to assist Ukraine in building a better future, viewing today’s crisis as a chance for transformative growth. As Margot Wallström, Co-Chair of the International Working Group on the Environmental Consequences of War, stated, Ukraine has a unique opportunity to transition to a zero-emissions green economy and emerge as a global leader in green technologies.

🌱 The UN system is also actively engaged. According to UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine, Mr. Mathias Schmale, green recovery must be a multi-sectoral process, fully integrated into all aspects of rebuilding. The UN is also exploring the Community Recovery Fund as a key tool for attracting investments and creating green jobs for Ukrainians.

We thank all experts, policymakers, business leaders, and civil society members who participated in this milestone event. Your input reinforces the urgent need for a green-centered approach to Ukraine’s recovery.

Together, with a shared vision and strong international backing, we are laying the foundation for a sustainable and resilient future for Ukraine.
